Nikon D3 image file corruption in Mac OS X Leopard

->> I am having a problem where my iMac (OS X Leopard) is sporadically corrupting about 30 percent of image files from my Nikon D3. I could not re-create the problem using a Nikon D2H, or using Windows XP or OS X Tiger. After the images are corrupted on my iMac (with Leopard) I am able to open them on another machine which will show the corrupted images as missing half their data (half, or more, of the image is just white). This problem only began since I updated my D3 with the most recent Nikon D3 firmware v1.10, but doesn't appear to be the same problems everyone else is having. I am not shooting Raw, but Jpeg Large Fine/Normal. I am often shooting in burst mode (9fps) and always FX format. Last night I attempted to recreate the problem on my iMac, but of course the corruption only happens when I am trying to edit an assignment on deadline. Anyone having this problem?

->> I had a card come out corrupt recently on my new D3. But it didn't have anything to do with Leopard. Are you saying the files were OK in on the card but not on the Mac? How do you know the Mac is causing the problem? I had some corrupt files after downloading to my Mac, so I took the same card and tried it on my HyperDrive Space Backup Unit, and the HD Space couldn't read them at all. I was luckily able to save 99% of them via Image Rescue. I think my problem was that I was shooting a few photos on my D3, then deleting them via the camera and the card reader instead of reformatting the card on the D3. I was doing this for a few days while testing out my new camera. Now that I have been formatting BOTH cards after use of either one, I haven't had any more problems.

->> Is there a RAM test for Macs? I had a similar problem on my PC a few years ago. It corrupted every D2X file I opened but did not corrupt smaller files. I ran a test program from Microsoft and found that I had a bad stick of RAM.

->> The files were getting corrupted from the moment I connected the card to the iMac (Leopard). I knew it wasn't the D3, because I shoot with the second card slot as a backup, and those files didn't get corrupted when I connected to a Mac running Tiger or a PC running XP. Since having this problem, I ran an updated for my iMac, and the problem has appeared to fix itself. I have been unable to recreate the problem. I have also begun to format each card every time I put them in their slots. It will continue to be careful about which OS I use to edit these image until Nikon puts out a new firmware for the D3.

->> Brayack, after you connect your card, are the files on the card permanently corrupt? Or only temporarily corrupted while opened through lightroom? About 10% of my images were getting corrupt (on the card) they moment Leopard recognized the card.

->> Mine are corrupt in lightroom - as far as I know, they were not corrupt on my card (I could view them on the viewfinder). I have not tried to open them in any other program - they were all just 'test' shots, so I deleted them. If I get another, I will post.

->> No worries Jock. Yeah it's not the same problem everyone else has had. I updated OS X Leopard and that seems to have fixed the problem. I still have very rare file corruption where i get multi colored bands across an image. Happens in only one frame maybe once every 600-700 frames. I shoot 'backup' and it only happens on one card. I'll post some examples later. Note: I haven't downloaded the new 1.11 firmware. I wanted to wait a few days this time to make sure it doesn't cause any problems.

->> I just recently bought a D3 and am getting corrupt files on my cards too. I have had this happen on a 32GB Ridata, 16GB Transcends, and 8GB Lexar 300x cards and am convinced it is not the cards. I have no idea what is causing this and have the latest firmware installed and never had this with my Canon stuff, which I still shoot with too. I need to call Nikon and check into this and see what they suggest. I was actually shooting today and said an error stating could not write to card slot two or something to that effect....weird. Always something! ;)

->> Beck, I had a problem with my laptop's RAM a while back that made one out of every 100 or so photos have pixel shifts after copying them to the hard drive from my compact flash. The RAM is a go between from the card to hard drive and if it is somehow bad, then you may get corruption. Do a thorough RAM test on your machine.

Mac computers are one of the most advance computers that are available in the market. It has quite a robust and well manufactured hardware and also it runs on the powerful and well designed Mac OS X Mavericks. But There can be certain unwanted situations where you may not be able to start the computer or perform any operation on it . The most common of them is grey screen of death and kernel panic. When you are regularly facing them there are chances of severe data loss. Sometimes the system does not even start. This can be happening because of any Mac OS X corruption issue. In some cases you may have to reinstall the Operating system which will finally lead to data loss. Now you will certainly ask how to recover data after Mac OS X corruption. It is discussed later in the post. First deal with the corruption, there are several factors that can cause Mac OS X corruption.
Spores Of Corruption Mac Os Download
Causes of Mac OS X corruption
Accidentally removing or dislocating the system files – The system files in any operating system are first files that are loaded in the RAM at the boot up. They contain some critical information which is needed by the computer at start up. If there is corruption in the system files or if they are not loaded the Mac will not boot and shows error. You can fix the system file issue if you have the recovery disk or the installation disk of the operating system all the other data may get deleted if you perform the process carefully and don’t create the back up before it.
Spores Of Corruption Mac Os X
Virus infection – Though the Mac is considered to be safe from virus but it proved to a myth as many users have complained about virus hitting their system. Virus or Malware is the worst enemy of a computer system. Once it enter in the computer it will go on corrupting the files and make them useless. It can also interfere with the functionality of the Mac. If the virus has affected the files in the start up disk then the system will not boot and all the data will be inaccessible. You will need to format the system and install the OS again.
Hard disk issues – Hard disk is one of the most crucial component of the Mac. All the necessary data required for booting is saved in the hard disk even the operating system is installed in the hard drive. Hard drive also have its own issues like hard drive malfunctioning, file system corruption, physical damage. The hard disk deteriorates after long usage which increases the number of bad sectors in the hard disk. If the hard drive is not functioning properly then the Mac OS X will get corrupted.
Sudden power surge or failure – Mac is overall an electronic machine. It requires electricity to run, if there is any power surge or failure that causes abrupt shut down then the data inside the hard disk will get corrupted and it can also hamper the other physical components of the Mac.
Many of these causes are sudden and in most of the cases you will lose data. It is better to be ready to counter these situations by creating a back up of all the important data. The Mac system also provides the inbuilt back up solution which is Time machine. It saves a copy of the preferred files regularly and save them in the external drive called Time Capsule. But the Time machine is not very reliable as it can give error at the time of back up or take too much time to respond. You must be searching for a solution on which you can trust, which can recover data after Mac OS X corruption.
Mac data recovery software is one such tool that is used by many to recover their data. It is effective, quick and simple. It performs a deep scan of the Mac drive after you have have fixed the Mac OS X corruption and bring the lost data in the preview. You can now select the files you want and it will restore them at the location you want. You don’t have to be a professional to handle this software, you can recover you data in just few clicks. Download the software and see its benefits by yourself.
